Templates are a great time saving feature. Recreate workflows, hierarchies, or repeat the to-do's within tasks.

ClickUp provides templates for the following items: 

How to View a Template

Space

  1. In the Spaces navigation bar or your Team settings, click Create Space 
  2. In the pop up window, select the Templates tab
  3. This is where you will find all Space templates

Project

  1. Select Add New Project in the Project sidebar
  2. Click Templates  
  3. Then select Everything  in the Import Options
  4. The entire Project Template you selected will now be viewable

List 

  1. Select the ellipses ...  of a Project within a Space with the List Template you'd like to view
  2. Click List from Template
  3. Within the List from Template menu, select the Template you'd like to view
  4. In the Import Options select Everything  
  5. You now will be able to view your List template

Task

  1. Open a task
  2. Click on the ellipses ...  to open the task menu
  3. Click Save as Template 
  4. Select a template and make changes
  5. Click Save Template to overwrite the old template with your changes

Custom Statuses

  1. Open a task to edit
  2. Within the current status of the task select the edit statuses gear icon 
  3. In the Edit Statuses menu select Custom Statuses 
  4. On the right next to the various Status Templates available select the bolded drop down menu to view the status templates you have

Note that you can access the editing options for Statuses when creating Spaces and Projects and also within a task view by selecting the gear icon next to a Status.

Checklist

  1. Open any task and select Add Checklist 
  2. In the Create Checklist menu select Templates 
  3. Select any template within the drop-down menu
  4. The template will be viewable within the task selected

How to Edit a Template

This process is essentially the same for every item which has a template: 

  1. Create a new Space, Project, List, task, set of Custom Statuses, or Checklist
  2. Select the Template option
  3. Select the template you would like to edit
  4. Once the template has created a new item, make the changes you need
  5. Now when you go to save this as a template, you will need to choose to overwrite an existing template
  6. Choosing the original template you used to create this item means you've edited the template!

Note that you will only have access to use a template if you have access to the Space it resides in
