Relationships in ClickUp allow you to link your tasks, Docs, or just about anything together! Build simple links between tasks in your Workspace or create an advanced database using Relationships between different Lists.
We are excited to see what people think of our new approach and features when it comes to Relationships. If you have any suggestions or ideas please leave your feedback here!
How to enable the Relationships ClickApp
To switch to the new way of linking relationships, you will need to enable the ClickApp for your Workspace. The following steps are for Admins and Owners.
- Go to your ClickApp Settings
- Toggle the ClickApp on
- Create Relationships in ClickUp!
Note: If you want to go back to the old version using Dependencies, you'll be able to turn off the ClickApp without losing any of your Relationship links. While we do keep the data, you will not be able to access any of the new fields unless you turn the feature back on.
We support multiple types of Relationships within ClickUp, each with its own use case.
Task Relationships are the simplest type of Relationship. Use these to link together any tasks from your Workspace — ideal for linking tasks that are related to the parent task but not necessarily dependent on it. Task Relationships allow collaborators to have quick and easy access to any tasks that overlap with the task at hand.
Got a task that is dependent on another task being completed first? Use the Dependencies Relationship table to call out any blocking tasks. This Relationship is perfect for when you have a clear order of what task needs to be finished before others can begin.
Backlinks are an incredibly useful type of Relationship that are created automatically whenever a task or Doc is mentioned by another. If you've mentioned a task or Doc in the comments, you'll see them automatically added to this table!
Link Docs and/or tasks within a parent Doc. This allows a Doc page to be accessed in numerous places for reference, without having to be duplicated or removed from its original location.
The Integrations Relationship is the table where you can easily access external tools used on a task. Within this Relationship field, you can access Github branches, Zendesk tickets, and numerous other supported integrations directly within your task. Once an integration is mentioned or linked in the task, it will automatically appear in the Integrations Relationship table.
Build your own type of relationship using our
Relationship field. This field allows you to create simple Lists of tasks from anywhere in your Workspace or more complex database-like Relationships, where two Lists are linked together.
Rollup Field collects and displays all the various corresponding field data related to a task. In your task view, you'll see it as a table built into the right side of your task. Different categories of Relationships will be separated out into rows, and columns can be added to the Rollup Field to include relevant details for your Rollup Field components.
If a user has access to a task will they now be able to see all the tasks linked via a relationship?
No, Permissions still hold true. A user must have access to any task or Doc in order to see it.
I am using the Rollup Field but I don't see any of my Custom Fields?
Currently, we only support Custom Fields when using a custom Relationship and the
link to list option. Visit our Relationship Field doc to learn more.
I am trying to export the Relationship but it's not showing up in my export.
We currently don't support exports in the Beta version.
